Arshad Mahmood was trying to escape to Afghanistan
LANDIKOTAL: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) personnel at the
Torkham border arrested the prime
Accused in the
murder case of a k**wn lawyer, official sources said on Sunday.
An official told The News on condition of a**nymity that they had received information that Arshad Mahmood, a resident of F-10, Islamabad, would try to escape to Afghanistan via Torkham. He said that on August 15, Arshad Mahmood had allegedly killed
Barrister Fahad Mehmood, a nephew of former Senate chairman Muhammad Mian Soomro. The official said the bereaved family had **minated Arshad Mahmood in the
murder case.
When contacted, Khyber Agency’s Political Agent Khalid Mehmood said the name of the alleged killer was already on the exit control list (ECL).He said the
Accused was on way to Afghanistan and had reached the
Torkham border at around 8pm Saturday night. He said that after preliminary verification of his name in the ECL, the
Accused was arrested and his computerised national identity card and passport were recovered from his possession.
He said the
Accused wanted to flee to the US via Afghanistan as a valid United States visa had been stamped on his passport. Meanwhile, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan an**unced Rs0.1 million cash prize for the FIA staff posted at the
Torkham border for timely action in arresting the accused.
