ISLAMABAD: A woman fell into Balakot’s river Kunhar and drowned
while trying to take a
selfie and his
cousin also drowned in an attempt to save him.The woman standing on a rock slipped into the river and her
cousin jumped into the water to rescue her but both were swept away, stated Arshad Khan, head of Balakot police station, a private news channel reported. The local divers fished out the bodies and handed them over to their family. The incident is the latest in a string of
selfie deaths that have occurred with the rise of smart phones.
Earlier this week, a girl drowned after falling into River Kunhar
while attempting to take a selfie. Her parents who tried to save her also drowned, officials said.
River Kunhar flows through Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province at a hilly tourist spot in Beesian village, some 200 kilometres **rth of Islamabad. The deep rocky and fast flowing river is popular for white water rafting.
