Police claimed on Tuesday that Muttahida Qaumi Movement leader and Karachi´s mayor-elect
Waseem Akhtar has admitted that whatever happened in Karachi on May 12, 2007 was carried out on his directives and he has confessed to it.
Police said that
Waseem Akhtar had ordered for firing on people going to Karachi Airport to receive the then chief Justice Iftikhar Choudhry.
Reportedly, he admitted this during a judicial remand in jail.
The administrative judge of Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) on Tuesday sent
Waseem Akhtar to jail on judicial remand in as many as 10 cases pertaining to facilitating hate speeches of his party chief and rioting on 12th May 2007.
The judge directed the jail authorities to produce
Akhtar before the trial courts.
Other seven cases were related to riots that erupted on 12th May 2007 in Karachi when suspended Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry had to visit the city.
