These photos, gathered from eBay and other sources by collector
Robert E. Jackson,*offer a strange and humorous look at the ways 20th
century artists have manipulated photos to decapitate their subjects or otherwise misplace or relocate their heads.
"Sometimes a
photo exists simply to provide a smile or a laugh, without any hidden agenda or messages,” says Jackson, who in two decades of collecting photographic ephemera has amassed some 12,000 images.*"They might say more about the technical abilities of the photographer than the subjects themselves."
