Pity the poor urban dwellers who have to cycle home on a sullen grey concrete
bike path. If you lived in Auckland, New Zealand, you'd be able to take a far more scenic route.
Designed by Monk Mackenzie Architects, the Nelson St Cycleway project, dubbed the "LightPathAKL," turned 600 metres of unused highway offramp into a bright pink streak through the city.

"The former asphalt highway was given a highly vivid and provocative pink resin and aggregate surfacing," architect Dean Mackenzie said in an emailed statement.*"This transformed the space from a disused highway into a highly contemporary urban space used by cyclists and pedestrians."
