LAHORE: Chief Justice of Lahore High Court Syed Mansoor Ali Shah ordered to sell the
sugar stock of Brothers
sugar Mills and deposit it with the court for payment to
farmers who had provided sugarcane to the mills.
The chief justice observed that the court would protect the rights of
farmers and ** one would be allowed to grab the hard earned money of farmers. The chief justice sought arguments from parties on August 15 for
sale of other assets of the mills to clear the farmers’ dues.
As ** one had appeared on behalf of the
sugar mills administration, the chief justice directed the board of directors to appear on next date of hearing. The chief justice was hearing appeals of a number of
farmers approached the court for payment of their sugarcane supplied to Brothers
sugar Mills.
During the hearing on Tuesday the cane commissioner informed that the mills had been sealed and its
stock of 4 lakh
sugar bags had been taken into custody. He also said that other 2, 65, 000 bags were pledged to the banks and total cost of this
stock is Rs 82 billion whereas the mills.
