Extremist
attacks like the blasts in Brussels on Tuesday that left at least 34 dead and 270 injured are increasing in
Western Europe, but they're still **t nearly as common as they were from the mid
1970s to the mid-1990s.
Anti-government groups such as the Irish Republican Army in **rthern Ireland, Basque separatists in Spain, and Anni di Piombo in Italy helped turn such
attacks into more than a daily occurrence*between 1970 and
1996.
