iDesign Advanced WaveScan Features Space Telescope Tech**logy (VIDEO)
Abbott is unveiling a new LASIK system, just approved by the FDA, that produces high resolution scans of the human eye with levels of detail previously unavailable in clinical systems. The*iDesign
Advanced WaveScan Studio System takes 1,200 readings of the eye within a three second scan. It measures parameters such as the shape of the cornea, the passage of light through the eye, and pupil size under different illumination. The imaging*tech**logy that allows these capabilities was developed at
Abbott and integrated into the James Webb
Space Telescope that should be put in orbit in 2018.
The new
Tech**logy will allow physicians to offer LASIK for people with higher levels of astigmatism and those that have unusual pupil sizes.
From Abbott:
In a clinical study on 334 eyes treated with the iDesign System, 99 percent of patients experienced little or ** difficulty with the clarity of their vision and 97 percent of patients had little or ** difficulty with their daily activities after surgery. In addition, patients saw significant improvements in their vision while driving at night and a reduction in glare.
