Obama to fight Islamic State militants in Iraq and Syria

In a televised address laying out his strategy against ISIL he also stressed this would mean the need to support the rebels fighting against President Bashar al Assad. ?I*again*call*on*Congress*to*give*us*additional*au thorities*and*resources*to*train*and*equip*these*f ighters.*In*the*fight*against*ISIL,*we*can**t*rely *on*an*Assad* regime*that*terrorizes*its*people,? said Obama. Islamic State militants have captured vast tracts of land in both Syria and Iraq. Obama pointed out their brutality and their ability to radicalise youngsters across the world. ?We will redouble our efforts to cut off its funding, improve our intelligence strengthen our defenses counter its warped ideology and stem the flow of foreign fighters in and out of the Middle East,?he added. At the heart of the president?s plans is the formation of a broad coalition including Arab nations in the fight against the jihadists. Obama will also be sending 475 advisers to help the 1,000 US personnel already training Iraqi forces. But, he stressed in reassurance to the American public he would **t be sending any US ground troops.
