Liverpool transformed into 1920s London for filming of TV thriller
 

</p> Actor Toby Jones was on set waiting for filming to start on BBCâ??s latest Agatha Christie thriller.

Extras in period costumes, vintage cars and old newspaper front pages could be seen in front of the Liverpool Playhouse in Williamson Square on Thursday night.

Liverpool -born Kim Cattrall also stars in The Witness for the Prosecution, but she didnâ??t appear to join Toby Jones on set.

The actress who was born in Mossley Hill shared a picture of herself on Crosby Beach in August when she arrived in the city for filming.

The thriller is set in 1920s London and follows the brutal murder of glamorous Emily French, played by Cattrall.

All evidence points to Leonard Vole (played by Billy Howle), who has been left the heiressâ??s enormous fortune.

Last Christmas, the BBCâ??s adaptation of Christiesâ??s And Then There Were None, was a huge hit, with ratings of more than eight million.

Liverpool has been the pick for numerous big productions in recent years.

Recent figures revealed filming in Liverpool brought in a record-breaking آ£11.5m to the local economy in 2015.

Cast filming the new Agatha Christie drama
The cast and crew of Harry Potter spinoff Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them filmed in the city in October.

The Cunard Buildings and St Georgeâ??s Hall were among the sets used in the movie, which stars Eddie Redmayne and Colin Farrell.
