Ina May's Guide to Childbirth is one of the best books on birth that I have read thus far. The book goes into great detail about the author's own experiences as a midwife whose practice has a very low intervention rate. The book was written at the suggestion of several obstetrician friends of hers who asked how she could possibly achieve the statistics that she had published for her birthing center. They told her that she needed to explain to them how these statistics were achieved. She publishes these same statistics in the appendix to the book.
