Qasr-e-Naz Six arrested in children?s death case
 

KARACHI: As many as six employees of Qasr-e-Naz in Karachi were arrested on Monday for their negligence during fumigation leading to the death of six including five children.The five children and their aunt died after they arrived atQasr-e-Naz, Karachi from Pishin. It was initially suspected that they had died due to food poisoning but it was later established that they had died to the poisoning from the deadly gas phosphine produced form commercial grade, highly toxic fumigant, aluminium phosphide (AlP).The dangerous AlP is used to repel rodents and insects at agricultural storages and is banned as a domestic fumigant. Sources, privy to the investigation, confirmed that chemical analysis had confirmed wide and reckless use of the fumigant at the government guest house. Empty containers of the chemical were recovered from the store of the government rest house, the sources said.The family was staying at the guest house and the five children and their aunt died due to inhalation of the toxic gas from the chemical. The family had come to Karachi for the treatment of their mother from Pishin and the tragedy befell the same night.
