Hundreds of people turn up for climate change protest in Cardiff causing city centre
 

Hundred of people have marched through Cardiff to protest government inaction on climate change.

Over 300 people marched from City Hall to Cardiff Central Library where talk are being given to the assembled crowd.

They also entered Barclays bank and staged a sit in protest.

They have also closed the lower part of St Mary Street to traffic with many protesters lay down on the floor.آ*

The march is being organised by the group Extinction Rebellion. A spokes person for the group said: “This is an unprecedented global emergency.

“The government has failed to protect us. If we were coal miners we would be up to our knees in dead canaries.

“On March 9 we will underline this fact. There will be plenty of â??dead canariesâ?? on the streets of Cardiff this Saturday.”

What are their demands?

Extinction Rebellion have three demands:

1. “The Welsh Government tells the truth about the climate and the wider ecological emergency, reverses inconsistent policies and works alongside the media to communicate truthfully with citizens.”

2. “The Welsh Government must enact legally binding policy measures to reduce carbon emissions to net zero by 2025 and to reduce consumption levels.”

3. “A national Citizenâ??s Assembly is set up to oversee the changes, as part of creating a democracy fit for purpose.”
