Punjab govt won?t oppose Hamza as PAC chairman: Basharat
 

LAHORE: Punjab Law Minister Basharat Raja has said the issue of Opposition leader in the Punjab Assembly Hamza Shahbaz Sharif’s appointment as chairman Public Accounts Committee is subject to election and government will not oppose if he gets elected for the slot.However, he said Chief Minister Usman Buzdar and Punjab Assembly Speaker Pervaiz Elahi had to be consulted over this issue and on their return from Umrah, assembly session would be summoned which would decide about PAC chairman and standing committees.“The PAC chairman will be elected through election, Punjab government will not withhold the notification of Hamza Shahbaz, it will act as per the set formula,” said the law minister while talking to media Monday. The perception that the government intended to delay the notification of the PAC chairman if Hamza got elected for the slot wasn’t true, said the law minister while responding to a question.It is pertinent to mention that PML-N President Shahbaz Sharif and Opposition leader in the National Assembly is also holding the office of chairman PAC in NA, amid much dissenting voices within the ruling party cadres as majority of the PTI MNAs still oppose his role as PAC chairman owing to corruption charges against him.
