respiratory issues
 

Hi everyone ive just joined the forum as im desperate for some advice & hoping you guys can help.I bought my first horse 5 weeks ago. at purchase he was fine i did know he had had a cough which had been affecting all horses (from riding school) months before. I spoke to vet who had treated & she was unconcerned & the cough was now resolved.After 1-2 weeks of getting him he developed rapid laboured breathing + increase in heart rate due to effort. He was showing signs of hayfever type symptoms running nose i started some antihistamine but breathing worsened.I contacted previous owner who has been very supportive & said had never shown any of these problems before.he is now on steroid & ventipulmin powder.I have not been able to ride him since i got him.I am really concerned this will not resolve & i cant afford to have a horse on expensive medicines i cant ride. Insurance is unlikey to pay & only covered for this year anyway & then will not payout.I have been extremely upset as you can imagine. I am really even thinking of PTS. I cant sell him as he is & probably will never be able to sell him unless im dishonest. I would hate he ended up in awful hands. he isnt even very old 8 years & i know it seems terrible but i just done know what to do.He has been on medication 1 week & shows some improvement. of course ive had people telling me the worst that he will need nebulisers constant steroids & its just causing a lot of stress.The vet so far thinks its environmental he is in an area that is very high in pollens compared to where he lived before. I dont presume this will ever go away.Has anyone got advice/similar problem??
