Follow up to post on sharer's stirrup irons
 

A few weeks ago I posted about my sharer and the irons she's using. I have the pony and some tack on loan from the owner of the yard and he is shared by a child. I'd seen her riding him and said to the parent that I thought the safety irons-which he came with- were now too small. I asked on the forum about the gap there should be between the foot and the edge of the iron and got confirmations back that it was what I thought it should be. I emailed the parent and offered to buy new safety irons and she was going to measure child's foot to find the size. I then heard nothing. Today I saw one of the employees on the yard (who teaches the child) and thought it would be a good idea if she prompted the parent. I'd only mentioned child's name and stirrups and she replies that the parent had asked both her and the deputy manager of the yard if the irons were ok and they'd told her they were. She said to me 'They're fine- her foot can slip out easily'. So- am very cross with the parent - it wasn't going to cost her anything and shows a lack of appreciation that if you share something you do what the owner asks and with the yard - who yet again show their lack of basic knowledge and who I think should have said that if I wanted the irons changed she should go with it. I haven't mentioned it yet to the parent but feel like asking her to put in writing that she is happy to take the risk of her child using inappropriate tack.
