?Gold pistol? seized as Russia arrests top Caucasus officials
 

OSCOW: Russian investigators have arrested top officials in the North Caucasus region of Dagestan in an embezzlement probe, seizing a stash of weapons including a gold pistol, officials said Monday. The Investigative Committee has been looking into suspected embezzlement of budget funds allocated to Dagestan for social programmes, and found that top officials in the regions were implicated, it said in a statement. These include Dagestan?s acting prime minister Abusamad Gamidov and his acting deputies Shamil Isayev and Rayudin Yusufov, as well as the former education minister Shakhabas Shakhov, the committee said. ?Today... the suspected individuals have been detained, their homes were searched,? it said, adding that the search of Gamidov?s house yielded a ?gold TT pistol, Beretta pistols, a (Makarov) pistol and two Kalashnikov rifles.?
