Zainab?s killer has no bank accounts: SBP
 

LAHORE/ISLAMABAD: The State Bank of Pakistan on Friday confirmed that the main suspect in Zainab's murder and rape case has no commercial bank accounts.

A letter addressed to the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) constituted to investigate the rape and murder of Zainab said: ?All commercial banks have informed that they have searched their databases and found no account of the accused against the said CNIC.? The central bank had launched an inquiry after TV anchor Dr. Shahid Masood alleged that Imran Ali, the main accused, had dozens of bank accounts.

Meanwhile, announcing the findings of the State Bank during a news conference in Lahore, Punjab government spokesman Malik Ahmed Khan said the allegations against the main accused leveled by a TV anchor were "fake and fabricated".

"The news report presented by Dr. Shahid Masood is absolutely fake and fabricated,? Malik Ahmed Khan said, adding the State Bank of Pakistan has also confirmed that there are no foreign currency commercial bank accounts of the accused.

Responding to a question about the lawmakers named in relation to the child abuse controversy in Kasur, Khan said those who faced ?character-assassination" have the right to clear their name.

Meanwhile, talking to the media after inaugurating 78 new Mobile Registration Vans of the National Database Registration Authority (Nadra) in Islamabad, Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal said the Punjab Police has done a great job by tracing the main accused in Zainab's rape and murder case.

He said it is a huge success but for some elements it is hard to digest and they have launched a propaganda by involving influential personalities in the case. He said the social media propaganda and the claims of TV anchor Dr. Shahid Masood that the main accused has 37 bank accounts has proven wrong.
