'Mad Men' Episode 5 Recap: Can Anyone Take Orders Around Here?

He can take anything but an order.” Lou Avery’s “Scout’s Ho**r” cartoon, discovered by Stan at the SC&P copy machine, may certify Lou as the ultimate fuddy-duddy to ever grace the ad firm’s Gotham ******s. But, what the cartoon — and its caption, specifically — really accomplished was setting the mood for the entire episode of “The Runaways,” Mad Men’s fifth episode in its final season. In “The Runaways,” Lou’s employees at SC&P routinely make their boss the butt of jokes; Betty refuses to fall in line as the silent politician’s wife and fights with her husband, Henry; Sally continues to snap at Betty and Betty’s maternal values, defiantly distancing herself from her mother; Megan fails to follow Don’s instructions when a pregnant Stephanie arrives on her doorstep; and, of course, Don continues to outwit the SC&P powers that be (Cutler and Lou, in particular), who are hellbent on seeing Don’s demise.
