Pain in the But - Buyer
 

Actually I am posting this with amusement and relief!!I had an enquiry for our Shagya mare from a Frenchman who had lost his own Shagya mare with a broken leg and wanted another. Our worry was his age 60's and knowledge. He said he was looking for a dressage horse - she is a great SJ but has been having dressage training with an Olympic eventer. We can check riders on the FFE website and this man had never done any dressage. Anyway he worried the life out of us to come and visit so we made an appointment for him to come and see her (he wanted a short notice vetting), a few weeks ago which he cancelled the night before as he had found another horse.A week later it transpires he has had a second chance ex-track TB which he could not catch, so sent it back after just one week.More phone calls to come and see Antgone who was SJ in December. At this point I asked my French visiting teacher if he could talk to the man, as my telephone French is not great. I explained that he must come and ride her at least twice, I would not let her go unless we were happy that they were right for each other. Appointment made for coming Saturday but he does not know what time as he has been spending Christmas in Provence (so who would have looked after his 'new' Shagya had I let her go in December?). Another message this evening to say he is not coming as he has now bought a Lusitano. Good choice I hope they do well.Sigh of relief from me. My trainer says that is not the attitude if you want to sell a horse. As far as I am concerned it is. Trainer already had a view that the potential buyer was not very knowledgeable. Our mare is very talented and I am in no hurry to sell her on. She has to go to the right competition home.
