ECP to add 7.36m new voters to 2018 electoral rolls
ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) is gearing up to add another 7.36 million new voters to its electoral rolls from next month, taking the tally of total voters to over 104 million.
The ECP will start revision of electoral rolls from January 15 and after this exercise will be over; it will be followed by addition of 7.36 million CNIC holders to these lists and deletion of 0.923 million dead voters from the same. It is important to point out that of these, 0.634 million (68.62 percent) are males and 0.289 million (31.37 percent) are females. Afterwards, the electoral rolls will be displayed at each district for public viewing and receiving applications for shifting of a vote or correction, if needed. Of new 7.36 million to be added to the electoral rolls, the gender disparity is again quite evident as 4.072 million are males and 3.287 million are females. In Punjab, a total of 4.1135 million, including 2.211 million males and 1.9019 females will be added to the rolls. To what extent, the ongoing efforts, led by the Election Commission to register females in identified 79 districts will help in bridging this gender gap is very hard to speculate about. In Sindh, 1.454 million new voters, including 0.8672 million males and 0.5871 million females will be made part of the lists; whereas, in Balochistan, 0.452 million, including 0.268 million males and 0.183 million females, will be made part of the electoral rolls. Similarly, in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 1.015 million new voters will become part of the national database of registered voters with 5.720 million males and 4.433 million females. In Fata, 0.288 million new voters, including 0.136 million males and 0.152 million females, will be added to the electoral rolls, showing a promising increase in number of female voters in that particular region. In the Federal Area, a total of 35,852 new voters, including 16,601 males and 19,251 females will be registered as voters and included in the electoral rolls. In the statistics, released by the Election Commission on October 12, this year, the number of registered voters was 97.022 million; of these 54.598 million (56 per cent) were males and 42.424 million (44 per cent) females.Meanwhile, the Election Commission adjourned till January 02 hearing in the petition filed by a Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf local leader Yusuf Ali, challenging the intra-party election held earlier this year. The PTI chief election commissioner and party?s parliamentary leader in the Senate, Senator Muhammad Azam Swati, presented the electoral record to the Election Commission bench, which was short by two members due to which hearing was adjourned. http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/com/cwEr/~4/uPIVOmK_I08 أكثر... |
