Stability in Afghanistan not Pakistan?s responsibility, says Aizaz
 

WASHINGTON: Pakistan ambassador to the US Aizaz Chaudhry has stated that stability in Afghanistan was not Pakistan's responsibility, though it benefits the country.

The ambassador urged the Trump administration to join hands with Pakistan in the fight against terrorism, a common enemy. Pakistan?s embassy launched a factsheet on Friday evening detailing Pakistan's sacrifices and its efforts in curbing terrorism. The booklet highlights that Pakistan has conducted as many as 13 military operations to root out terrorist groups. Zarb-e-Azb remained the most successful, according to the data provided in the factsheet. It enumerates the price the country has paid in blood and treasure in the fight against terrorism. The booklet will be given out to the Trump administration officials. It specifically highlights the heroic sacrifices of Pakistan?s valiant armed forces and civilian security forces in restoring normalcy in the country in general and Fata in particular. The factsheet also previews the progress made under each point of 20-point National Action Plan (NAP), underlines Pakistan's actions on anti-terrorist financing and lists the steps taken to strengthen National Counter Terrorism Authority (Nacta).

Addressing the launch event, the ambassador maintained that the war was an imposed one, but Pakistan has taken up the mantle and made huge successes in curbing terrorism. He underlined that the resolve of the nation of Pakistan remained strong to defeat terrorism. He underscored the need for a cooperative and synergetic approach to win the war and urged the world to unite and fight against the common enemy.

Responding to Vice President Mike Pence's comments in Kabul that Trump has put Pakistan on notice, Aizaz Chaudhry said that Pakistan seeks stability in Afghanistan because it?s in its own favour. He said the US and Pakistan should work together to achieve the objective. He said the Pakistan Army cleared out areas in various operations, and now the sanctuaries exist in Afghanistan and to nab terrorist groups, both countries need close cooperation and strict border management.
