About half a mile into the 2014 Boston Marathon, my friend who was running alongside me turned and screamed, “This is the Boston Marathon!”

Part of what he meant, is that the Boston Marathon is an event uniquely wrought with emotion ** matter the year. But 2014's race promised something even more.
