Anyone who has tried to start running can tell you it's not so easy. But if you do want to start and need some guidance, here are some simple steps to follow. First off, start slowly. You won't walk out the door day one and sprint for three miles. Go slowly enough that you can have a conversation while you run. If you can't, you're going too fast. Which leads into the second piece of advice, work some walking into your run, or some running into your walking, whatever is best for you. Pick an object in the distance and plan to walk when you get there. Once you're walking, pick another object where you'll start to run again. The next time you go out for run, try to run a little farther and walk a little less. Before you know it, you'll be able to string those running segments together for several miles. It also helps to make a schedule so you don't push too hard too soon, and to find a friend to run with.
