Lacey "Princess" Holsworth, the 8-year-old whose battle with cancer led to an unlikely friendship with Michigan State basketball star Adreian Payne, has died.

Beloved by Michigan State players, fans and college sports media alike, Lacey was the inspirational figurehead of the team's March Madness run. She suffered from a rare form of nerve cancer. A fan-launched crowdfunding campaign has raised more than $70,000 for her treatment
