House bill seeks to require LTFRB execs, employees to ride public transpo once a week
 

http://img-s-msn-com.akamaized.net/t...6&q=60&o=f&l=fA lawmaker on Tuesday filed a bill seeking to require officials and employees of the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) to ride public transportation once a week. House Bill 6229, filed by Leyte Representative Henry Ong, serves as support for the proposal of AANGAT TAYO party-list Representative Neil Abayaon to require all public servants to ride public transportation at least once a month. "Public servants without empathy do not deserve to serve in the LTFRB," Ong said in his explanatory note. "Public service improves when it is rendered with empathy and compassion." Under his proposal, all LTFRB officials and employees will be mandated to commute via public transport once a week during rush hours, from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Strict penalties will be imposed to LTFRB officials and employees who will violate the law. The first offense non-compliance, for instance, is punishable by administrative suspension for one month without pay, second offense with penalty of six months without pay, while the third offense is punishable by dismissal from service. Meanwhile, dishonesty in compliance with the proposed law will be meted with a penalty of six months without pay for first offense and dismissal from service for second offense. The Civil Service Commission, the Office of the Ombudsman, and the Department of Transportation will be tasked to create and promulgate the Implementing Rules and Regulations for the proposal. "The personal, first-hand experience of riding public transportation will enable LTFRB officials and employees to gain better perspectives in aid of rendering judgments and crafting policies," Ong said. ?Erwin Colcol/KBK, GMA News
