His wish was finally granted on Friday, August 25, the last day of his wake. Delos Santos, 17, was killed on the night of August 16 in a police anti-drug operation in Caloocan City. The police's claim that he tried to shoot arresting policemen was belied by witnesses and a CCTV footage provided by the barangay. "[August] 16 namatay siya, di ba? 15 magka-chat sila ng mama niya ang sabi niya, 'Bili mo ko, ma, ng bike.' Kasi 'yung mga kaklase niya may electric bike. Ang anak ko ang hinihingi bike lang kasi alam naman niya ang hirap ng mama niya," Kian's father, Saldy, said in a report by GMA News' Mariz Umali on 24 Oras. Saldy said Kian, a Grade 12 student, even promised to pass his examination in school if his wish would be granted. "'Yun na lang ang huling hiling ko sa inyo at ipapasa ko ang exam ko," Saldy recalled his son as saying. Saldy said the bike will be put on display in their house in memory of his son, whom he said he will sorely miss. "Masakit iiwanan ako ng anak ko," he said. "Nasanay kasi ako na kasama siya eh, every day, sa pagtitinda. Katabi ko sa pagtulog." The family has already filed criminal complaints against the three policemen involved in the operation before the Department of Justice. "Sana hanggang sa huli samahan niyo ko kasi pangit ang ginawa sa anak ko. Sana makulong 'yung mga 'yon," Saldy said. The Caloocan policemen claimed Kian fired at authorities while trying to escape during an Oplan Galugad operation in Barangay 160 in Caloocan. Reportedly recovered from him were a cal-45 pistol and two sachets of suspected shabu with a street value of about P20,000. His relatives, however, said the items did not belong to the teenager.
