Ministry officials say it is impossible to stop additional loadshedding



ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has asked the ministries concerned to eliminate unscheduled loadshedding across the country forthwith and the situation must be brought under control within 24 hours.

He directed for re-verification of the amounts of circular debt from third party auditors so as to ascertain the claims attributed to fuel payments, line losses and other factors.

According to an official an**uncement, the prime minister directed for the calculation of accurate figures for estimated power demand and expected supply from the existing as well as under implementation plants over the next 12 to 36 months.

The instructions were issued in the meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Energy (CCE) here on Tuesday at the Prime Minister's House. It was the second huddle of the committee in less than 24 hours where the overall demand and supply of the power situation was thoroughly discussed by the participants.

The Ministry of Water and Power officials reportedly briefed the meeting that it was impossible to stop additional loadshedding that would be continued during the holy month of Ramazan. The prime minister directed the Ministry of Water and Power to ensure there was ** unscheduled loadshedding anywhere in the country during the holy month of Ramazan. He directed to ensure uninterrupted power supply all over Pakistan during Sehr and Iftar.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif chaired the meeting that is viewed as follow-up on urgent measures being carried out to reduce the loadshedding. Secretary Water & Power Yusuf Nasim Khokhar, who assumed the ****** last month, informed the meeting that detailed working had been undertaken on utilisation of all installed capacity.

The prime minister emphasised on inclusion of provincial representatives in decision making on important issues related to the power sector. Minister for Water and Power Khawaja Asif informed the meeting that steps were being taken to end the unscheduled loadshedding in different parts of the country.

The meeting was also attended by Minister for Finance Senator Muhammad Ishaq Dar, Minister for Water & Power Khawaja Muhammad Asif, Minister for Petroleum & Natural Resources Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, State Minister for Information & Broadcasting Ms. Marriyum Aurangzeb, Secretary to the Prime Minister (SPM) Fawad Hasan Fawad, Federal Secretary Cabinet Nadim Assef Hasan, Federal Secretary for Petroleum Yunus Dhaga and other senior officials.

Prime Minister Nawaz had hectic engagement in the day as he reviewed the development activities based on the reports received by various departments. He had discussion with Finance Minister Senator Muhammad Ishaq Dar about the next year’s budget, which is being debated in the two houses of parliament.

In the meanwhile, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee General Zubair Mahmood Hayat called on the prime minister earlier in the day. Defence and security matters were discussed during the meeting. Matters related to strategic and operational preparedness of the armed forces also came under discussion. The general has recently returned from a foreign visit and he briefed the prime minister about his visit, the sources said.
