Alipay partnership will boost our payment service offerings — GHL

http://img-s-msn-com.akamaized.net/t...6&q=60&o=f&l=fKUALA LUMPUR: GHL Systems Bhd said its partnership with Alipay is a boost to its current offerings in the payment solutions space, as it aims to provide a complete set of payment options to its merchants. In April, GHL an**unced it had teamed up with Alipay ? one of the largest mobile and online global payment platforms ? to provide payment solutions methods to merchants in both Thailand and Malaysia. Alipay is owned by Ant Financial Services, which is part of the Alibaba Group. ?Our promise to our merchants is that ** matter how big or small [their business is], or what kind of payment instrument they use, we will enable them to collect payments so they can do business,? GHL group chief executive ******r Danny Leong told reporters after the group?s annual general meeting last Friday. ?[Our partnership with Alipay] is just one step in that direction [of being an all-round payment solutions provider] as it adds on to all the other services that we will provide to the merchants,? he said. On the topic of Malaysia?s transition into a card-less society, Leong said Malaysia, like the rest of Asean, is moving towards the use of debit and credit cards, so the transition from cash payments to card payments will be more imminent than the transition from cards to card-less, that is, mobile wallets. ?Broadly speaking, there are two parts to [payment options], there is cash and there is electronic payments, which can either be through a debit or credit card, or through a mobile wallet.? ?We see in **t only Malaysia, but in [other Asean countries], a move from cash to electronic payments but for this part of the world, transactions will still primarily be using debit or credit cards,? Leong said. However, he thinks the mobile wallet will still be a relevant part of the ecosystem, in addition to the traditional debit and credit card transactions. So while the transition from cash to electronic payments will definitely take place, the time frame for the adoption of card-less payment systems is harder to predict and depends on individual countries.
