Rs320 bn allocated for roads, Rs42.6 bn for railways
 
ISLAMABAD: The federal government has allocated Rs320 billion for developing the road infrastructure, Rs42.9 billion to railway sector and Rs13 billion were earmarked for the Karachi Greenline project.

During the current fiscal year, railways would work on completing 30 schemes which remains incomplete due to **n-provision of funds for this purpose during the last fiscal year. **w the government has made provision of Rs33,535.239 million to the railway sector for completing the ongoing schemes.

Similarly, the railway would initiate six new development projects during the fiscal year 2017-18 for which an allocation of Rs9,364.761 million has been earmarked out of the total uplift funds provided to this sector.

In order to enforce new schemes in the country by the railway sector, land for connecting Gwadar would be acquired at the cost of Rs400 million. For carrying out feasibility study for linking the rail track from Havelian to Pak China border measuring 682 kilometres will be made under the CPEC programme.

For this purpose, an amount of Rs1 million has been earmarked. Similarly, for carrying the feasibility study for up-gradation and extension of ML-III, which is also connected with the CPEC plan, Rs198 million would be spent. The railway has decided to procure and manufacture 830 high capacity bogie freight wagons and 250 passenger coaches during the fiscal year 2017-18 on which Rs7,596.761 million would be spent.

The rehabilitation and up-gradation of ML-I, including acquisition of land for new dry port at Buldhair, district Haripur, is also under the plan of railway to implement in the current fiscal year, for which Rs432 million would be spent. This project is also a part of the CPEC.

In the ongoing schemes, Rs5,000 million have been allocated for acquisition of land for Railway Container Yard, Station and railway line from sea port up to Coastal Highway at Gwadar. For the China Pakistan Eco**mic Corridor (CPEC) Support Project at the Ministry of Railways Rs50 million has been earmarked. For doubling track from Khanewal to Raiwind, Rs814 million would be spent.

Similarly for doubling and improvement of the existing track from Port Qasim to Bin Qasim Station under CPEC, Rs123.921 million have been earmarked.
