OssDsign, a Swedish firm, received FDA clearance to introduce its OSSDSIGN Cranial patient-specific implants for cranioplasty procedures. The implants are made based off of individual patient CT scans and are manufactured using 3D printing. They consist of calcium phosphate composite tiles with titanium in the interior to provide reinforcement.

One of the advantages of the company’s tech**logy is due to the spacing between the calcium phosphate tiles that help tissue grow around the implant. The same spacing provides resistance to *****ing, a limitation that many competing implants have.

In studies, the implant has demonstrated low infection rates, fast healing, and successful bone remodeling.

Thanks to the materials used, patients with the OSSDSIGN Cranial will keep the option of getting MRI scans, as long as certain precautions are taken.
