Does a father have to like his son?

It's an unsettling question that kicks off the trailer for Paramount's Fences, starring Denzel Washington and Viola Davis. The father in question is Troy (Washington), a former baseball player whose life is changed irreversibly after a wrongful criminal conviction. He works tirelessly to provide a better life for his son...but that doesn't mean he likes him.

Washington narrates the trailer as Troy, his voice shaking with emotion as he addresses son Cory (Jovan Adepo).
