Govt asked to repair damaged educational institutions

PESHAWAR: Urging the government to order reconstruction of the educational institutions damaged during military operations in the tribal areas, a dozen of activists of Waziristan Youth Organisation staged a protest demonstration outside the Press Club here on Friday. They demanded provision of education facilities to tribal students. Led by Mir Wali Dawar, president of Waziristan Youth Wing, Mohibullah, general secretary and Asadullah, information secretary, the protesters were holding placards and banners inscribed with slogans. Talking to reporters, Mir Wali asked the government to provide education facilities to the tribal student.



FC soldier shot dead

PESHAWAR: A paramilitary soldier was shot dead on the Industrial Estate Road near Hayatabad on Friday.The soldier was identified as Basit, a resident of Battagram village in Charsadaa. The police said he was a sepoy of the Frontier Constabulary posted at Hayatabad. “The deceased accompanied a**ther sepoy and he was specifically targetted, leaving the other unhurt. It suggests that it is a matter of personal enmity,” said Assistant Superintendent of Police Hayatabad Waseem Riaz.



IED defused, suspect held

PESHAWAR: The bomb disposal unit (BDU) defused an improvised explosive device (IED) planted at the Bacha Khan Chowk and the police arrested a suspect from the spot, officials said on Friday.According to the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) officials, an alleged militant, AshiqHussain, from Charkhana locality was arrested from the Bacha Khan Chowk. They said the IED weighing four kilogram was defused by the BDU experts. The officials said an accomplice of the militant, Dilawar, managed to escape from the scene. The two militants were wanted by the police in connection with several attacks. Raids were conducted to arrest the fleeing militant.



Lawyers observe strike

PESHAWAR: The lawyers in the provincial capital on Friday observed strike to protest the killing of a lawyer.Ajmal Latif, the district general secretary of Malgari Wakilan, and his brother were killed by armed men in the limits of the Bhanamanri Police Station on Thursday. They were laid to rest in their ancestral graveyard on Friday. The lawyer community had an**unced a strike to protest the killing of a senior member of the bar. The Awami National Party had also condemned the killing of Ajmal Latif and his brother.

Many trade centres remain closed for security reasons during Ashura.The SSP appreciated the support of the traders in peaceful observance of Muharram. Meetings were earlier held with religious leaders from different sects.



Fleeing murder accused re-arrested

BANNU: The police on Friday arrested a murder accused who had escaped from the Basiakhel Police Station a day earlier, official sources said. Talking to reporters, Deputy Superintendent of Police Falak Nawaz Bangash said that Manzoor, a resident of Husni Qila, had allegedly shot dead his sister and injured his sister-in-law a few days back. The police had arrested him along with ****** used in the crime. However, he added, the accused escaped from the police station at night. The police launched a search. A house was raided and the fugitive re-arrested.

One injured in Landikotal blast

LANDIKOTAL: A local resident was seriously injured when a roadside bomb hit his car in Khugakhel area of Landikotal in Khyber Agency, sources said.Wali Muhammad Shinwari was on his way to Landikotal bazaar when his car was targetted with a remote-controlled bomb near his residence in Ashrafkhel. “Thick ***** billowed from the blast scene while Wali Muhammad received multiple injuries and was rushed to Agency Headquarters Hospital in Landikotal,” said a local resident.** group or individual claimed responsibility for the attack. As the incident happened, the security forces reached the site. They also arrested six suspects during search after the incident.Irshad Ali, a political tehsildar, told reporters that Wali Muhammad had **minated his rivals in the case.
