FIR against armymen for thrashing Motorway cops sealed

Army officials to lodge fresh FIR, say Motorway Police’s misbehaviour triggered the incident

**WSHERA: The first information report (FIR) lodged at the Akora Khattak Police Station against the soldiers of the Pakistan Army for thrashing four officials of the National Highways and Motorway Police (NH&MP) was sealed on Monday.

The NH&MP lodged the FIR against two army majors and 25 soldiers on the charges of beating up its four officials. The case was registered under sections 148, 149, 186, 365 and 506 of the Pakistan Penal Code.

The army officials have taken back their complaint against the NH&MP officials and will lodge a fresh FIR. They said they wanted to make some changes in the FIR.

The army men had alleged that the NH&MP officials misbehaved with them, triggering the untoward incident.

Meanwhile, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement that an inquiry had been launched to probe the matter.

It said that law would take its course and justice would be done.

It may be recalled that four NH&MP officials were allegedly roughed up by personnel of the Pakistan Army near the Jehangira Town on the Grand Trunk Road on September 10.

The NH&MP officials had signalled two speeding cars to stop near Jehangira but they sped away.

The vehicles were chased and those seated in them, who introduced themselves as officials of the security forces, stopped near Khairabad.

Those travelling in the two vehicles were in civvies and they called their friends on phones to reach the spot.

Other army personnel travelling in four vehicles arrived there and roughed up the NH&MP officials.

They were accompanied by two army majors, who led the soldiers to severely beat up the NH&MP officials and forcibly take them to the nearby Attock Fort.

The NH&MP officials were kept in illegal detention and were released after the high-ups held negotiations to secure their release.

Atif Khattak, who was injured due to the thrashing by the soldiers, had said that Captain Daniyal and Captain Qasim, who were in civvies, had been involved in reckless driving and were, therefore, signalled to stop due to violation of traffic rules. He complained they were beaten up for daring to stop the soldiers.
