LAHORE: Chinese Consul General Yu Boren said on Friday Shahbaz Sharif was equally popular in the Chinese leadership and people as he was among the Pakistani masses. He said Shahbaz Sharif was a man of action and his vision for the uplift of the education sector was commendable. He said work was being carried out speedily on the CPEC projects in Punjab.

He was addressing a function held in connection with Chief Minister’s Chinese Language Scholarship Programme. He said that 300 megawatts solar power project at the Quaid-e-Azam Solar Park, Bahawalpur, had been completed expeditiously. Similarly, he said, 65 percent civil work of 1,320 megawatts coal power project in Sahiwal had been completed and this project would be completed in the middle of 2017. He said work was also in progress expeditiously on the Lahore Orange Line Metro Train project and it was hoped that it would also be finished within the stipulated period. He said the names of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif would always be remembered for taking the Pak-China friendship to new heights.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif said that under the Punjab government’s vision of investing in future of the country, 50 male and frmale students were going abroad for PhD in the best universities as well as 130 students were leaving for China for learning the Chinese and they had been selected purely on merit and on account of eligibility.

He said these talented sons and daughters of the nation had got scholarships on the basis of their hard work and without any favouritism, collusion or bribe. He said these students on their return to Pakistan would play an active role in progress and prosperity of the country.

The chief minister congratulated the students going abroad for PhD and learning the Chinese language besides those who got outstanding marks in the 9th class examination. He gave laptops to students going to China for learning the Chinese and those going to leading universities of the world for PhD as well as to students getting more than 500 marks in the Class 9th examination. He said the first batch of 66 boys and girls was already learning the Chinese language in Beijing and the new batch of 130 students would soon leave for China for this purpose.

Similarly, he said, 33 students had been selected for PhDs in leading universities of the world, including Cambridge, Oxford, Imperial University, National University of Singapore and others. He said the expenditure being incurred by the Punjab government on these students was a useful investment for bright future of the nation. He said students who would return to Pakistan after learning the Chinese would serve as a bridge between Pakistan and China as students of other provinces of the country had also been included in this programme. He said in this way, the link between Beijing and Lahore, Quetta, Peshawar and Karachi would strengthen and the process of national progress and prosperity will accelerate. He said these students would promote CPEC, which would stay forever and more investment of billions of dollars would be made in this project.
