Sana warns of terror threat during PTI rally
 

LAHORE: Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah, citing military and civilian intelligence agencies’ reports, said there were chances of terrorist attack in Lahore during the PTI’s rally planned for today (Saturday).

“Similar intelligence report was provided by the agencies on today’s Peshawar and Mardan terrorist attacks in which around 14 people have died and dozens injured,” the minister said addressing to a press conference at 90 Shahrah-e-Quaid-e-Azam on Friday.

“We have issued high alert in Lahore for Saturday on the basis of authentic intelligence source reports,” he added.In the past, a similar authentic intelligence source report was provided on Wagah border terror incident, he said, adding that the government considered an intelligence source report authentic once same information started coming repeatedly from various sources. “Hence, the government acts accordingly to counter terrorism.”

The PTI has planned rally from Shahdara to Punjab Assembly along a 14 kilometres long route, asking its workers from different cities, especially Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, to reach Lahore for the purpose.

“‘Cordoning off this huge open area for security is **t possible but the Punjab chief minister has issued instructions to provide three-tire security to the participants of the rally”, he said.Rana Sana said the security arrangement was similar to what provided to the Ashura and Eid Milad-ul-Nabi processions. However, he explained that these processions have always been limited to certain areas and public holidays on the occasion ensure that security arrangements do **t disturb routine life.

“In the case of PTI Saturday rally, all the ******s, schools, businesses and daily routine of citizens would be affected due to diversion of traffic and other security arrangements,” Rana Sana added.

Requesting PTI Chairman Imran Khan and other party leaders including Aleem Khan, he appealed to postpone the rally till Eid-ul-Azha.“After Eid-ul-Azha, Imran Khan can take out a rally with his political cousin Tahirul Qadri,” he said, taunting that Imran could collect more allegations after Eid-ul-Azha to level against the prime minister.

“We have shared the intelligence source report with PTI in writing so that they are also aware of the threat”, he said.The minister said according to the plan submitted by the PTI, Imran was scheduled to reach Shahdara in a helicopter and lead the rally in a bullet-proof vehicle, while the party workers would be vulnerable to the terror threat.

“Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is going to Peshawar to meet the injured and the family members of the deceased. Imran should also visit Peshawar with his political cousin and share the mi****** of those affected by today’s terror attack,” Rana Sana said.

He said terrorists were trying to destabilise Pakistan by attacking the people and public institutions which was being replicated by Imran by creating instability and chaos through rallies and sit-ins. “Imran’s approach is self-centric and he will get **thing from such rallies,” Rana Sana remarked.
