MQM?s flagship position, maybe temporarily
Epic blooper dissipates
ISLAMABAD: Altaf Hussain’s Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), which had been consistently used by the General Ziaul Haq and General Pervez Musharraf regime is confronted with grueling circumstances of his August 22 anti-Pakistan diatribe. Zia-Mush regimes that had nurtured the MQM overtly and covertly for decades made the most of its muscle in Karachi and Hyderabad to crash the civilian dispensations, which, however, always knew the actual hands behind its appalling mercurial strategies. Zia-Mush regimes couldn’t care less how badly and monumentally Pakistan kept suffering due to this political upheaval and chaos. **w, it seems impossible for Altaf Hussain to get out of the nut*****er situation created by his own unprecedented attack on Pakistan. He has the distinction of getting away with innumerable bloomers but this time he is in a deep soup. The **ose around him is tightening day by day and every trace that even slightly speaks about his existence in Sindh in absentia is being aggressively scratched from the face of earth. The rest of the MQM based in Pakistan has been made to behave and mend, and it has adopted a positive trajectory to discipline itself for its survival. During most of its existence, the MQM had been on the right side of consecutive governments, military or civil, but had been leaving only the political setups on being prompted to weaken these regimes or give rise to a situation where they can’t stay alive. During the late eighties and nineties the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) had immensely suffered due to such policies of the MQM. At one time, it joined them but ditched them when ordered to do so. The dramas of resignations from assemblies repeatedly enacted by the MQM were part of this devious stratagem. The MQM thus played a significant role in the packing up of civilian setups. In the meantime, Karachi kept bleeding. Also, the mega city kept sliding into an abyss from where retrieval persistently became very difficult. Such machinations turned Karachi into a place that it never was since independence. If the MQM fell out with one government on one excuse or the other and received a beating for its criminal acts, it made it a point that it gets a place in the following regime. Thereby, it was always successful to manage release of its detained hardcore workers and withdrawal of criminal cases instituted by the outgoing civilian dispensation. In this bloody game, the MQM kept thriving, touching new heights. After failing to decimate the PPP’s popularity even after executing Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, General Ziaul Haq had thought that a Mohajirs’ party would help cut the sway of the PPP at least in Sindh which had been its perennial bastion. With this in view, he created the MQM but could **t live too long due to his death in a plane crash to use it too much. However, the Mush regime kept his policy alive by fully backing the MQM for its use against the PPP and PML-N. The MQM showed wonders by keeping every regime on tenterhooks all the time. General Pervez Musharraf, who like every military dictator was in search of political legitimacy and props, unequivocally protected, prospered and thrived the MQM, which armed itself unprecedentedly during his rule. It was obviously on his wishes and commands that the May 12, 2007 bloodshed took place in Karachi in which the MQM played the fundamental role. Karachi’s mayor-elect Waseem Akhtar, who was then in-charge of the home department, has been arraigned for this bloodletting. The time will tell whether Musharraf's name is mentioned in this context or **t. Never before had countless target killings taken place in Karachi as happened during Musharraf’s eight years rule. In actual fact, the MQM never enjoyed such sweeping, dreamy powers that it exercised during this era. Musharraf was at the peak of his rule when Altaf Hussain had dubbed the division of subcontinent and creation of Pakistan as a historic blunder in India in 2005. The regime asked ** questions and rather the Pakistan embassy in New Delhi was directed by Musharraf to throw a lavish party in the ho**ur of the MQM chief to keep him in good humour. http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/com/YEor/~4/1wHyFUFugn0 أكثر... |
