Photos show the destruction of ancient temples after powerful Myanmar earthquake

A powerful earthquake struck the city of Bagan in central Myanmar on Wednesday. The earthquake registered a 6.8 on the Richter Scale and killed at least three people.*

Bagan is famous for its historic Buddhist temples and ancient history. The quadk damanged roughly 200 temples, most of which were built between the 10th and 14th centuries.*

The images below show the aftermath of the earthquake and the damages to the structures. Residents began cleaning the rubble and debris yesterday and will begin repairs to the temples. **
