A 6.8-magnitude earthquake has struck the **rth-central region of Myanmar, damaging *ancient brick pagodas in the famed city of Bagan.*

At least one person was killed in the quake, which hit 25km (15.5miles) west of Chauk at a depth of 84km (52 miles), according to the U.S. Geological Survey.*

While these deep earthquakes generally cause less surface damage, at least 66 centuries-old stupas in Bagan were damaged, said a spokesman from the ministry of religious and cultural affairs.
