South African runner Wayde van Niekerk may have stolen the spotlight from Usain Bolt on Sunday night in Rio.

The 24-year-old shattered Michael Johnson's 17-year-old record in the men's 400 meter run by .15 seconds with a 43.03 run, all from the outside lane.*





When van Niekerk won, Johnson, an**uncing the Olympics for the BBC, said in awe, "Oh my god." *
