French mayor bans burkinis from beaches

The mayor of Cannes has banned full-body swimsuits — also k**wn as burkinis - from the beaches of the French Riviera resort city citing security reasons.*

Mayor David Lisnard issued an ordinance in late July forbidding beachwear that doesn't respect "good morals and secularism."*

It **tes that swimwear "manifesting religious affiliation in an ostentatious way, while France and its religious sites are currently the target of terrorist attacks, could create risks of trouble to public order."

Transgressors could face a fine of €38 (£33; $42).
