One longstanding emoji is about to get a big change.*

The pistol emoji, which has been around since 2010, is being redesigned with the next version of iOS 10. The change, revealed by Apple Monday, swaps the pistol for a bright green "water pistol."

The update will roll out with iOS 10, slated to hit iPhones and iPads this fall, but those who are part of the iOS 10 public beta can see the change **w.*

Apple didn't give a reason for the change but highlighted the new "water pistol" symbol in press materials on its website. The update will also add new emoji portraying women professionals and athletes, and will redesign several other existing characters. Read more...
