"Where do we go from here?" That's the question phone makers and gadget reviewers like me ask whenever a new smartphone launches and it's just a**ther great smartphone in a sea of great smartphones.

As much as I prefer the iPhone, I'll admit it has become boring. The iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus are great, but undeniably dull (even in rose gold). This year's iPhone 7 (or whatever Apple will call it) doesn't look like it'll be a bold reinvention, either.

There's **thing wrong with being good but boring. But where's the fun in that?
