When the bus of 105 refugees first arrived in Ål, **rway, ** one would eat. The meat wasn’t halal, and the volunteers who staffed the emergency asylum housing didn’t seem to understand Islamic dietary restrictions. For four days, everyone subsisted on bread and tea.

But Magd Ahmad had an idea.

He went to his room and leafed through the pocket-sized Quran he keeps on his nightstand, bound in dark green leather with delicate, embossed gold script on the cover.
