DG FIA?s fate still hangs in the balance
 

LAHORE: The fate of ‘apparently’ dysfunctional FIA Director General Muhammad Amlesh Khan still hangs in the balance even after the return of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif from abroad.

According to sources in the federal capital, Amlesh, though, is still heading the premier investigation agency but he was **t being invited to official interior ministry meetings. FIA delegation led by one of his juniors used to participate in the meetings.

These meetings were held on different dates including May 26, June 8, and July 12, 2016. On the other hand, sources in the FIA told this correspondent that after being appointed FIA DG, Amlesh in order to form his team decided to remove some senior FIA ******rs including including some directors.

An explanation given by FIA director general over the entry of Mulla Mansoor Akhtar into Pakistan from Taftan border without completing immigration formalities was also rejected by the ministry. Mansoor, former Taliban leader, was killed in a US done strike while he was on his way to Balochistan after entering Pakistan from Iran through Taftan border in May. Several efforts were made to contact Amlesh Khan but he didn’t respond to phone calls and text messages.

Nevertheless, an FIA official, close to DG, said Amlesh doesn’t have any ill-will against any FIA ******r but the only thing he wanted was the betterment of FIA considering it as a national cause. He added that Amlesh wanted to bring some FIA ******rs of his choice who could provide relief to masses besides serving them in a better way.

When contacted, spokesman of the interior ministry Sarfraz Ahmed confirmed that several meetings were held with FIA ******rs in the absence of FIA director general. “I don’t k**w the reason”, he remarked when asked why the head of FIA wasn’t being call to the meetings in the ministry.
