KARACHI: The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) decided to launch a campaign against the federal government of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) as the party maintained that those talking of solo flight were damaging the opposition parties’ unity.

The decision to this effect came as the PPP provincial coordination committees met here at the Bilawal House on Saturday as PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari chaired the session. The meeting was attended by members of the coordination committees of the PPP belonging to Sindh, Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Central and South Punjab.

The meeting at Bilawal House took stock of the current political situation in the country and considered various suggestions for the future strategy of the party regarding this scenario.

Briefing newsmen about the decisions of the meeting, PPP’s Central Information Secretary Qamar Zaman Kaira said that all five provincial coordination committees of the party had presented reports in the meeting regarding the progress on reorganisation of the party in the provinces. It emerged during the meeting that the reorganisation drive of the party had slowed down to some extent during the holy month of Ramazan.

PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari directed the provincial coordination committees to speed up the reorganisation drive of the party to launch the campaign against the government of the PML-N.

Kaira said that the internal reorganisation drive was a very difficult task for any political party as several political parties could **t complete the task but PPP and its Chairman Bilawal Bhutto had accepted the challenge. He said that the best efforts could be made to complete the reorganisation drive of the party within the stipulated time but the timeline in this regard could be extended if need so arose.

He said the meeting had taken the decision that the reorganisation drive should be completed at the earliest for the purpose of launching the campaign against the federal government and for showing the political power of the opposition parties on a full-fledged basis.

The PPP’s Central Information Secretary said that the meeting at Bilawal House had taken into consideration issues related to the Panama Papers, accountability drive, power loadshedding, and in this regard the persisting discriminatory attitude of the federal authorities against the rural parts of the province.

“At the moment several issues are surfacing while the federal government has been failing to resolve them. In case the federal govt continues to show slackness like it has been showing and if such a situation persists, affairs could **t be managed in the same manner any more,” said Kaira. So the PPP has to complete its reorganisation drive at the earliest for adopting its future line of action, he added.

He said that the PPP had adopted a clear position regarding the Panama Papers issue while the PPP had led the campaign of the entire opposition on the issue. “It is our viewpoint that it would be better if all opposition political parties made progress on the issue while being together but before this organisation structure of our party has to be completed,” said Kaira.

He said that the PPP, being an opposition party, would perform a role on this issue that the entire world will be proud of its role. Those opposition parties, which had been planning to do a “solo flight” in the drive against the government, were causing damage to the unity being maintained among opposition political parties.

To a question, Kaira said that the opposition had been asking the same questions from the government on the issue of the Panama Papers scandal which the rest of the world, the entire nation, and the media had been asking.

To a question, he said that there had been ** ban on the movement of former president and PPP leader Asif Ali Zardari as earlier he had left the country of his own will while he will also come back to Pakistan of his own will.

To a**ther question, he prayed that doctors would soon allow Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to come back to his native country. He hoped that the prime minister would come back to the country after finishing his shopping abroad.

He also prayed to God for the early recovery and health of the ailing PM of the country.

To a question regarding the outcome of the reference filed by the PPP in the Election Commission against the prime minister, he expressed the hope that composition of the Election Commission of Pakistan would soon be completed by appointing its members but he said that it would be difficult to expect any decision being an**unced against the government of the PML-N.

He said that the forum of the judiciary was fully available to the PPP to get justice in this regard as this option could also be exercised.

He said the people of Sindh were being exposed to injustice by resorting to prolonged power loadshedding in their areas.

Speaking on the occasion, the Sindh Chief Minister’s Adviser on Information Moula Bakhsh Chandio said that thousands of people in every district had been taking part in the reorganisation drive.
