Says leave the task of electing or replacing govts to voters

LAHORE: Information Minister Pervaiz Rashid on Sunday said all the PML-N members of National Assembly were united under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

Responding to the editors during a Council of Pakistan Newspaper Editors (CPNE) meeting at a local hotel, he said the National Assembly recently passed the budget which was ** less than vote of confidence. Pervaiz said the prime minister might return to the country during the Eid holidays, if his physicians allowed him to travel after a medical check-up next week.

He said the government had always maintained that Pakistan would never allow using its land against any other country and the other country too shouldn’t host any subversive activities against Pakistan.

He said all the countries in the region would discuss steps on the subject during the Saarc conference to be held in Pakistan later in the year. To a**ther query, he said, “It is our collective responsibility to unlearn the past lessons of extremism through our pens, lens of camera and books.”

About accountability, the minister said the government had invited the opposition to formulate a committee to present recommendations. About the nexus between Bilawal and Imran, he said the people desirous of standing side-by-side on a container did **t wait for each other on the issue of filing a petition and wanted to leave the other behind for point scoring.

Separately, Pervaiz said, “We should leave the task of electing or replacing the governments to our voters and use our precious time for curbing anti-state elements, restoring peace and progress.” Talking to a private TV channel, he said the opposition had the right to criticise the government but it should **t hamper the development process. Pervaiz said the nation was well aware that ** mega project was launched in the country from 1999 till 2013 during the tenures of Pervez Musharraf and PPP. The minister said the mega projects were being executed in a transparent manner. “They issued political statements but **body could bring forth any misappropriation in mega projects like Thar Coal, motorway, Gwadar Port and power projects in Punjab.”

Answering a question about the reference filed by Imran in ECP, the minister said the PTI chief earlier used to distrust the ECP but he had approached it, showing that his previous stance was wrong.

He said it was an opportunity for Imran to prove his allegation that the premier had some hidden assets.

Answering a question about the ToRs committee, the minister said it was **t the issue of ToRs but of the election campaign, as the opposition was sorting out its ranks to face the PML-N in 2018. When asked about the grant issued by the KP government to a seminary, the minister said it was regrettable as the PTI government had allowed grant to an outfit which nurtured a mindset that killed soldiers, chopped off their heads, laid landmines and attacked civilians. “Grant for them is a hei**us crime. The nation can**t forget this mindset **r can forgive them.”

When asked about the PPP’s joining the PTI agitation, he said if the party had decided to become a B team of Imran and shun the path of their deceased leader, it would be a negation of Benazir Bhutto’s thoughts.

He said some defeated minds might have a desire to derail democracy but it could be only their desire because presently all institutions believed in strong democracy.
