SC directs CDA to take back summary on NARC land
ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court (SC) Wednesday directed the Capital Development Authority (CDA) to withdraw its summary to the prime minister seeking permission for conversion of National Agricultural Research Center’s (NARC) 1395.2 acre land into a housing scheme.
A three-member bench of the apex court, headed by Chief Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali, heard the instant matter.Counsel for the CDA told the court that the summary would be tabled before the CDA Board upon return of the chairman from abroad. It is to recall that the National Agriculture Research Center (NARC) land was allotted for agriculture research in 1975 but the CDA last year submitted a summary to the prime minister seeking approval for conversion of the land into a housing scheme. Some ******rs of the PARC however challenged the possible conversion of the land in the apex court, pleading that research was carried out at the NARC with international institutions to promote agriculture in the country. Accepting the plea, the court had stayed the conversion process and sought response from the federal government and the CDA with the observation that the land was **t personal property of the CDA. On Wednesday, the counsel for the civic body informed the court that the summary withdrawal matter was **t taken on the CDA Board meeting agenda previously; however, soon after the return of chairman CDA from abroad the matter would be referred to the meeting for approval. The court however directed the CDA to withdraw the summary and submit a report on the next date of hearing on May 25. http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/com/YEor/~4/ZZQSxChtCBg أكثر... |
