One killed, nine injured in Peshawar blasts
 

Peshawar: One police constable was killed and as many as nine were injured as two bomb blasts shook the city on Wednesday morning in Peshawar’s Mithra area.

According to Superintendent Police (SP) Cantonment Kashif Zulfiqar, the bombs were remote-controlled. The first remote-controlled bomb was detonated as a police van was passing by, which injured several policemen as well as one civilian. When a Bomb Disposal Unit (BDU) van arrived, a second remote-controlled bomb was detonated. This time, the BDU members were injured since they had been the target of the second blast. A heavy contingent of police reached the area as the injured were shifted to Lady Reading Hospital for medical treatment.

Senior Superintendent Police (SSP) Abdul Majid Marwat disclosed that among the injured included officials belonging to the Bomb Disposal Unit, Counter Terrorism Department and police. A couple of civilians were also injured in the attack. SSP Majid Marwat also revealed that four-and-a-half kilograms of explosives were used in the bombs that went off.

Police have initiated investigation regarding the blasts and have registered a FIR against unidentified persons.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif strongly condemned the incident and called for the best medical treatment to be provided to the injured.
