Naheed Khan, Safdar Abbasi demand PM to step down

Panama Leaks

KARACHI: Leaders of Pakistan People's Party Workers (PPPW) Safdar Abbasi and Naheed Khan have demanded that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif should step down on being linked with the recent scandal of offshore companies named in the Panama Leaks scandal.

Speaking at a press conference here at the Press Club on Friday, the PPPW leaders said the prime minister had all lost moral authority to remain in the ****** of the country’s chief executive till the time the investigations into the Panama Papers’ scandal were completed.

PPPW leader Naheed Khan said that Nawaz Sharif was the prime minister of the country and his name was **t mentioned in the Panama Leaks but his children had been implicated in the scandal of running offshore companies, so it had become necessary for the PM to step down.

She said it seemed that all the mainstream political parties had reached some sort of understanding to save and protect each others' interests as politicians were being named in massive corruption scandals.

She said that the menace of corruption had reached alarming proportions in the country while weakening the very foundations of the country. She said that reputation of politicians had been highly tainted as they were being named in every other misdeed and scandal in the country.

She appealed to the Chairman of Pakistan People's Party Bilawal Bhutto Zardari to rein in his father (Asif Ali Zardari) and his cronies from committing further corruption in Sindh as in case their corrupt practices were **t stopped, there would be ** prospect of political success left for the PPP’s chairman.

She said that political elite families had become like a mafia in the country as they had captured all the resources. Naheed Khan said that there were media reports indicating that arrested Peoples’ Aman Committee leader Uzair Baloch and former federal minister Dr Asim Hussain, while being investigated by the security agencies during their arrest, had made certain revelations regarding the assassination of former prime minister and PPP leader Benazir Bhutto in 2007. She appealed to the Sindh Rangers’ authorities to make public the video footage and reports of Joint Investigation Teams, which interrogated Uzair Baloch and Dr Asim Hussain to reveal the truth in this regard.

Safdar Abbasi said that the incumbent Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah had been supporting corrupt misdeeds of Asif Ali Zardari for the last eight years. He said it was high time that parliament should play its due role against the menace of corruption in the country. He said that in case present sorry state of affairs continued, then it would cause a serious setback to democratic dispensation in the country.

Meanwhile, PPPW leader Safdar Abbasi an**unced that his party would contest the upcoming by-election in Karachi on the Sindh Assembly’s seat PS-93 as the by-poll would be a test for his party. The PPPW would field one of its workers Rojhan Afridi in the by-poll. The PS-93 fell vacant after PTI’s lawmaker Syed Hafeezuddin representing the constituency an**unced to join the newly-formed Mustafa Kamal-led Pak Sarzameen Party.
